Hi, I'm trying to update the BIOS on a P C Chips M598 v 9.0
I visited P C Chips .twn downloaded a flash utility named aminf332.zip and the BIOS programme.
My problem is, when I unzip the .zip file it shows up as a folder called UTILITY. When I try to put the command in to do the flash at the DOS prompt ie a:\aminf332 990314s.rom I get 'bad command'
Any ideas please?

so you took the contents of the utility folder and copied to a floppy? did you just copy the utility folder itself to the floppy? if you just copied the folder, then your path might not be right.
you can cd utility then run the command again

That one's sorted... opened the file in a new folder on desktop and copied the BIOS programme to the floppy. I have just the flasher and the BIOS on the floppy now.
However, when I tried to run it I got RED lettering saying,
"error 9 -- the BIOS tag is incorrect
The old tag is <M598-V90-8670> new tag is <598-90-8670>
esc to abhort return to continue"
needless to say I abhorted.
any ideas please?

are you sure you downloaded the right bios update? if they don't match you will not be able to flash the bios.

The BIOS string correspondeds with a P C Chips M598-V90.
The third set of digits in the string reads, 001437. The 1 identifies it as Hsung Taiwan and I can't find a web page for that manufacturer. There is a sticker next to the keyboard socket giving the version of board, V 9.0.
I went to www.pcchips.com.tw and the only BIOS programme with a V9.0 was the M589. So I downloaded that and the result I got, I posted yesterday.
I also went to www.amptron.com same result.
I also went to www.eurocomla.com/m590_d.htm
Finally to www.badflash.com/biosdownload.html
Same thing, with the same result each time.
So in the end I bit the bullet, shut my eyes and pressed return. And got away with it. No, It's NOT recomended, and definetly not with the flasher from badflash because there is no oportunity to save the old BIOS.
All this from a little of my own work and a lot of help from MRCOMPUTER on www.mrcs.net/ The whole saga is in that site.
I posted here because I've had a lot of help from you guys in the past and another viewpoint on a problem can be helpful.
