My panasonic DVD player will not allow me to play cd-r's that I have "burned." This is my home player. Is there a way around this? Also, if there is a way, do the files have to be converted to .wav from .mp3?

Thanks

You need to first convert the files to CD-Audio format. MP3s won't work on a DVD player, nor will WAV files. There are lots of converters out there, and one of them probably came with your burner.

If the problem persists, you may consider switching to CD-Rs with a lighter tone to them. Some players have trouble reading the darker tones of some less expensive discs.

First as jpheg said:

acceptable formats are:

CD-DA (the audio cd's) - you burn them and they HAVE to be playable on your CD player.

VCD (video cd) - your cd burning program can guide you through how to create those.

Data CD's CD-r's (including CDs containing MP3's and Wavs) will NOT PLAY on either the CD Player nor the DVD player.

BUT!!!
The DVD player has to be CD-R compatible! NOT ALL DVD players are. So even if the audio cdr is playable on a cd player, the dvd player might not play it. This is a hardware limitation of many DVD players (notably most Sonys, Toshibas, Hitachis, JVC's, Panasonics -note I said most not all) and there is no way around it. Only thing is to sell the incapable DVD and buy a capable (Philips, Matsonic, Pioneer, Magnavox etc). Remember to ask (or even better test) before you buy.

Hi,
The following site has a free download of about4.7 Mb that will convert MP3 to CDA

Another program to do the conversion for you is WinAmp. It is free and you can download it from: http://www.winamp.com/

It will convert an entire directory of mp3 files for you.

The DVD players that play mp3's are brands that I had never heard of but there are a few out there.

There are multiple questions that we are playing "around", but not answering. If you want to play audio CD-R's that you've burned on your PC, many newer home DVD players will play them, but ask first. I would take one of my own home-made CD-R's with me to try. The Apex model mentioned will ALSO play CD-R's burned with MP3's instead of CD audio. My Toshiba 6200 will play my home brew CD-R's. It will NOT play a CD-R full of MP3's. My older Panasonic A310 DVD player won't play ANY CD-R's, but will play real CD's. Got it? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I'm not to sure what your asking for, are you planning on playing music or videos on your standalone player?

Thanks for all the great advice. It looks as though I'll have to purchase a new DVD player or kick down some cash for a cd player.

Thanks again

todd, go to circut city and get an Apex AD-600A

it will play mp3's burnt on a cdr, vcd's, audio cd's and of course dvd's. they sell them for about $125 so for the features they are awesome. the dvd playback is good for a low cost dvd. the only knock i have on the mps side is the list that comes up has very abbreviated titles of the songs so you kinda have to fumble your way trhough to get to the song you want. it does have a shuffle mode but it shuffles the same way every time.
