Hi,
Here is the situation.
I used to have my computer inside a typical midi case, the temps were running at about 45-50C.
I then took my computer out of that case and the temps dropped by about 10C.
I now have a large heatsink and the temps are about 20-25C.
i want to bulid a timber case, will the heating problem come back to the same it was before(i can then just add my fans) or does the timber retain a lot more of the heat, as i have heard one person say???.
Thans in advance Daniel...
They don't make heatsinks out of wood do they? Extra fans wouldn't hurt.Think about it. Wood is an insulator.Metal is a much better conductor, that's why it feels hotter or colder than a piece of wood at the same temperature.

Hi,
I dont expect that they would make wood heatsinks.
I realise that metal is better for getting rid of some of the heat, but, they look crappy, and the only ones that begin to look alright are very expensive, and as i have my frame already knocked up and some of the other mterials that i will need, it will alot cheaper to do it this way.
Thanks Daniel...

So long as you have god airflow, I don't think the material of the case would make a big difference. The actual design of the case would be the determining factor of your temps. I'd make sure you have at least 3-4 fans blowing in and out of the case.

About wood cases. Are they quieter? Seems like they would be.
The ultimate wood case would be built from Cedar.... I just love the smell and termites hate it.
Yes wood does make a quieter case.

Hi,
Thanks Rat, your case is the case that actually made me decide to build a timber case in the first place. Dont worry, the ideas that i have for the case will allow the case to have plenty of air intake, as well as out-take.
Thanks again...
That's Randy's case.. I have not started on my case yet.
