Asus is a pain
06-14-2002, 10:56 PM
I am working on an Asus Motherboard A7V133; customer is friend of a friend thing. Anyway they have no idea where the original disks are etc. I have found and installed the 4 in 1 and sound drivers and the system is up and running from a clean install of ME Corp. edition. Only problem I have now is in device mangler it showed a “PCI Mass Storage Controller” with a yellow exclamation mark over it. After a little more research I found that it has something to do worth the Promise SCSI port. I think this is the light that is mounted inside the case that operates with HD activity. I chased down and installed the Raid0or1.zip. I now have different error instead of just saying PCI Mass Storage controller in “Other” device it now says “Win9x-ME Promise Fast Track 100 ™ Lite Controller” under “SCSI Controllers”. This driver came from Asus website (Whenever it has been up the last 2 days.) and the light now functions when it did not before. Also drive “C” is in “MS DOS Compatibility Mode” (Even after the SCSI driver install). Any ideas guys? Mike

I have the same mobo. Two questions:
1. What OS?
2. Are you using the RAID slots as a RAID device or just simply as two handy IDE connectors for the HD(s)?
If you are installing W2K or XP, have a floppy handy with the Promise drivers already unzipped onto the floppy. During OS installation from CD, you will be prompted for any "SCSI" drivers (F6, if I recall accurately). Later, you will be instructed to insert the floppy.

Another question: what is the rev level of the drivers you have? I always found the newer ones from the Asus site gave me install probs, so you may want to go back one rev. If you need them, PM me with your email address and I can send you the driver set I use.
