Why did I stray away from pentium ??:(

I thought I did enough reseach before buying this board..apparently not.......in order for this board to run correctly you must disable audio, disable usb, disable firewire and on top of that if you use more than 1 memory slot chances are youll have problems

sorry guys gotta let it out, and if I get it running smoothly..well running that is ill eat my words

anyone interested in this board you have been warned

This is moral support Kook. I know the ASUS board can't be all that bad. Its very likely your memory stick. I recently put together a system for my friend using the very same board and a 256MB stick of Samsung PC2700 DDR. Installed the mobo, RAM and a GeForce4 Ti4400 into an Enermax 300W case and it posted fine. BIOS tweaking comes later, but I eventually disabled the onboard audio because my friend picked up Audigy oem card. Keep plugging away!

There's not alot of info about KINGMAX and thier model numbers. I do know that with Micron the "B "indicates an OEM part that the Dimms specs have been altered for a particular application.

I was working on my uncle's computer that he just built using an A7V333 and I had some odd problems with the memory as well... Whenever DIMM slot 1 was occupied, there would be problems. Sometimes it wouldn't boot up at all, sometimes it would start loading XP and then freeze, sometimes it would load XP, and reboot all on its own... As long as I didn't put anyting in the first slot, all was ok... I tried all the memory sticks he was using on my EPoX 8K3A+ (same chipset as the ASUS board) and it they all worked flawlessly. I also flashed the bios to the latest version, but that didnt help the problem. Its not AMD's fault though, just the board.

Isnt that saying the same thing? If it were an Intel cpu anybody who knows pc's woulda got a Intel chipset mobo to go with it. The prob. is AMD has to use 3rd party chipsets always and forever more since the 486 days! Every AMD sys I've put together I prey that crappy VIA chipset is worth the paper it was deseigned on. I've had alot of crappy performance from Via and SIS in the past. From agp cards running like pci to mem prob.s to video card instalation dificulties. Since you have mem prob.s along with onboard sound etc. its the chipset that is the real problem here! Not Asus they make **** fine mobo's! Now I'm not saying it is the cpu's fault as that isnt the case. What is the prob. is the crappy support that the chipsets give the chip. Its like AMD hands out the guidlines for the cpu and the chipset manufacturers just scoff it off. There is either a lack of comunication or misinformation but any way you size it up it comes down to the same thing. You getting SCR**ED!
AMD is part to blaim though! I mean they need to make sure these chipsets function properly, if they did this wouldnt be a prob. at all! Nvidia does. They go and check the specs of the 3rd party board manufac. that use their 3d gpu's and reference deseign as to make sure they work right. They made a personal visit to VisionTek to see the first ones roleing off the line. Why, easy quality check on how the boards worked afeter fab. Is it too much for the all great and wonderfull AMD to check up on their work? Are they above this, or will they say that is why they are cheaper. The whole thing gets me upset.:(
