I know nothing about DOS, (well, a little bit). My first computer had Win95 in it and I really had no oppurtunity to learn DOS. Are there any good books that cover DOS all the way up to the current version? I'd like one that shows step-by-step instructions on how to do things like X-Copy, installing CD ROM real time drivers, Move etc...

I find I outgrow those dummies books really quick, plus I can never find what I want to know - (perhaps I'm a bigger dummie than I think). By the time you've bought that, then find out you need more dos for dummies, you could of bought something more concise. I would go to a computer book store and check em out. Mine is a user guide that I got when I purchased a pc, and not for resale, but it does cover everything. Might get it at a used bookstore. In my area I get good deals on books at computer shows!

I first cut my teeth on "DOS for Dummies" and the sequel "MORE DOS for Dummies." They taught me all the basics I needed to know to run a PC on DOS 6.22. I learned to write batch files, edit config.sys and autoexec.bat with abandon, and even create RAM drives. Ahhh...those were good times--simpler times. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Seriously, though, you can never truly know Windows until you know DOS, whether it is hiding beneath Windows or forgotten in that castaway realm of emulation.

It is a rare thing, nowadays to find Windows-bred souls interested in that "antiquated" OS. It is even rarer to find an MS tech-support rep who doesn't apreceate a good knowlege of DOS in his beleagured caller.

I won't belabor the point here, but I commend you for your interest and I hope your search goes well!

I've heard "DOS for Dummies" is highly recommended. (No offense, my entire knowledge of MSDOS is what carries over from CP/M)
