did a search. info mentions, jumper, there is none, next remove battery, if I do this will I lose any thing else in bios, cant find flashing jumper.

That is a BIOS security feature that someone activated and set a password. Every board is different on how to reset that password; some you can just clear the CMOS (via a Claer CMOS jumper on the board), some have a dedicated password clear jumper and others you have to remove the battery (looks like a watch battery) from anywhere between 15 secs and 4 hours. Find out what board you have and the version, then we can be more specific on how to get rid of that password. If we know the type of BIOS you have(AMI, Award, Winbond etc...) we can even post a factory password list for you to try.

P.S.: Resetting the CMOS will not affect anything on the hard drive or mess anything up. It will however, reset everything to factory defaults and any custom BIOS settings you made will be lost, you will just have to reset them afterwards. Everything will be auto-detected upon startup after you clear the CMOS.

its an old tandy 2500. no jumpers, so just for luck I pulled the batt. will reinstall in 15 min or so. only chip that looks like a bios is ST B88AA
