I sent this question to the makers of Partition Magic but no reply in 48hours.

I have partitioned a 20gb drive to 5gb as C and 15 as D:

Operating system is on C but I have installed some programs on D:

Now I have a Programs directory in both "drives".

If I use Partition Magic to combine the 2 partitions will it combine the 2 directories into one? Will it update the registry? Most of all is it safe and will my programs work thereafter?

remember that all your shortcuts on your start menu point to C:\ & D:\. So if you try to open a program that was on D from a shortcut on a drive without a D it will cause a linking problem. As far as specifics I dont know 100%. This post is more of a BUMP.

I know that if you change drive letters by changing partitions in Partition Magic, PM will atuomatically find all instances of the previous drive letter and change it to the new one. Don't know if this works when combining partitions or not.
