I read on this forum a while ago that the laser in cd burners say on all the time. Is that still true for the newer burners?

Is that still true for the newer burners? Roy 01-20-2001, 02:49 PM I think "all the time" refers to during the burn process. I think Plextor's "BURN (Buffer Under RuN) Proof" turns it off while waiting for some data to write. t048 01-20-2001, 05:06 PM oh, ok. thanks. socalgal 01-20-2001, 05:20 PM Hi t048 Is this the thread? Perhaps a clue is in there. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/Forum2/HTML/009411.html NDC 01-21-2001, 02:04 AM I think "all the time" refers to during the burn process. This would depend on the manufacturer and model of the CDRW drive... As for some Yamaha and Sony CDRW drives, the laser stays on at all times.... regardless of the drive being accessed or not, which I think is a big waste of life span for a CDRW drive laser... Read the thread that Socalgal kindly posted above to get more info on the issue. SysOpt.com
