I have a nice machine and it is running like ****. I know why but I don't know how to fix it without converting everything back to fat32. I finally got a good install of winxp thank god but the only problem is this: I had to resort to using my old maxtor hardrive which I never took the time to fix when it was fat32. I did a scan on it in dos and in the first 6 gigs I found 17 bad sectors. I guess moving it like I did a few years ago didn't agree with it. Does anyone know of a way to fix or mark bad sectors on an ntfs file format. I looked on the maxtor home page but they all run in dos. Is it even possible to do this without having to format my hardrive back to fat32. Someone please be out there with the know how and the time to tell me.

Peace.

!!AMD STILL ROCKS REGARDLESS!!

If you have bad sectors, replace the hard drive. You can have ntfs mark sectors as bad and not use them, but eventually there will be more and more bad sectors. replace the hard drive before you lose all of you data.

Yeah, I have to agree. Cut your losses now and replace the harddrive if you can.
