At least some Hi-Val CDRW drives were made by Mitsumi; I've had very good luck with those. Perhaps someone can tip us all on the manufacturer of these DVD drives...

not sure if this makes a difference or not, but i have a Prime Peripheral 50X CDROM that i got about a month ago, and so far it seems reliable. it looks pretty solid and runs great so far so maybe that says something abuot the company. but who knows what time will tell... As for the Cendyne models, i think i read a post on this forum where someone said that company sells other brands and repackages them as Cendyne so you may luck out on those and get a good one, but i have never owned one so i cant really say. hope this info helps some.

I have a Hi-Val 10x40 and it works well. I did a little research and found out that Hi-Val makes DVD Players and markets them under several names.

I was shagging some info about Cendyne, as I considered purchasing their CD-RW. I was reading something that their DVDs were actually supposed to be PC World or some such rated very good.
