i currently use a terayon tj210 modem to connect from my pc (via ethernet card) to the internet provided by NTL. The connection is 128kbps download and 64kbps upload controlled by NTL. Obviously i get no where near these speeds and wondered if buying a better modem could allow me to reach higher speeds without having to upgrade my NTL account. If so do you have any suggestions.

Do a speed test at www.dslreports.com and see what you get, Ibet you will be right on par.

What are yor computer specs? These could effect your broadband speed a lot.

Were are you not getting these speeds?

If you do want to try another modem make sure its compliant with docsis requirements, might ask your isp what they recommend would work with there system. Toshiba modems are rated very high.

thanks for that,
my computer is actually really slow but i am planning a change to bring it into the 21st century. I dont think i can do a speed test as im a uk resident. but there is another question: Is there a speed difference between ADSL and the cable companys modem that im on (assuming theyre both 512kbps download) :)
