I have a pair of HDD's (60gig IBM GXP60's) that were part of a RAID strip & mirror set on a Promise Fastrack TX2000 (small server UDMA 133 PCI66 card) and have now moved them into my workstartion which has Promise Fastrack133 Lite RAID onboard (ASUS A7V333 Athlon motherboard).

The problem is that when I plug the HDD's in on the Promise's IDE cables, even though I now wish to configure the drives as two stand-alone drives, it tells me that there is a broken RAID mirror and that I need to rebuild it or delete it, except that the setup I had is not supported on my "Lite" controller and it won;t let me delete the array.

I have tried to use the drives on my main onboard UDMA133 controller, and they work fine, but I need those four channels for the DVD, CDROM, CDRW and tape drive.

Any idea on how to "scrub" those drives??

laters,

I think the best way to do this would be to put them back in the original machine and remove the raid array there...:)

not really possible and I don't especially feel like having to go and buy a TX2000 or find somebody else with a TX2000 to try and do this...

are there no utilities out there that can strip this tagged info off the HDD's?

Can you install one drive at a time, use a DOS boot disk, drop the existing partition (as it were), repartition and reformat, then remove drive A and repeat with drive B. Once both are done, then replace both into new system and have at it.

Most manufacturers have low level formatting/diagnostics programs on their websites. Have you looked on IBM yet?
