CD Media World CD-RW Modifications

Does anyone have any experience with the proposed modifications that CD-Media World has posted on their site? They say that by interrupting the Firmware burnin on an HP writer you can re-write with the firmware of a faster writer, thereby upgrading a 4X writer to 8X?

What do you guys think?

I saw that mod tip too, but since I don't have a HP burner, I didn't give it much thought.

Would be really great if it works.....potentially disastrous if it doesn't. My guess is though, that even if it failed, you could always flash it with the correct firmware, let it finish, and the drive would still be ok.

If you try it, make sure to let us all know how it turns out.

I don't think I have the guts or the cash to try it. I was hoping someone else might have some input as to whether those mods were valid?

I Just had To Update Nero To Another Version.
I Tried One Of Those Mods Off Of that Site....I Have A Ricoh 6x4x32 Drive that They Said You Could Make It Be A Ricoh 8x8x32 Drive,And It DID!
