when i load up unreal tournament, and open up the main menu, the sound becomes choppy, distorted, and very annoying. it wouldnt matter to me if this was only in the main menu but it also occurs in the game, seriously degrading performance. this is especially weird since this problem has never happened in the past. i have done everything i could think of to fix the error, (including new patch, updating my hardware drivers, and !reformatting!) yet nothing seems to give. i would appreciate any help you guys/gals can give me. i tried to get help in the games forum but only one person replied. my specs are amd k6-2 400@450, aopen ax59 pro, 196 megs ram, geforce ddr (visiontek oem), and an aureal vortex 1. Thanks.

does this happen when the Intro Movies starts like when u are getting a new map of something and waiting to be connected? Like the words are doubling and stuff?

Did you check the sound settings in UT?
I had mine set to max,-surround blah blah, and it slowed me down. So I put them back to normal.
Also check the advanced properties in the audio Multimedia settings in Control Panel, maybe you need to increase or decrease
the audio playback settings.?

I've also got a vortex 1 (8820) and well I had the same problems with the sound in win2k when the vortex was sharing an irq with something else. I had to put it on it's own irq to fix the problem. what OS are you running. good luck

Yeh I had that too. I was able to get rid of it by adjusing the game audio settings. Disable surround sound if its ticked off, and retry. If your frame rate wasn't that good, would it affect your sound during play?

Did you try running it under different Video drivers, Direct 3d and Glide to see any difference?
Also disable any programs that might be running in the background.
