Well I just knocked off the stock heat sink and fan off the thing, very scary thing being the first time of ever doing this stuff, put a blue orb on it.Used the grease that came with it and was wondering if you thought I could get a lot of extra proformance from lapping the thing?I am building a system :
1 GIG T_bird
Abit KT7-R
256 mg ram
GEf2 GTS
getting 4 80.80 high rpm case fans
Globalwin FOP 38
300 power

Any suggettions please send to help speed up the system for it to be the ulitmate gaming machine

I have also removed the heatsink and fan from my Elsa GeForce2. They were easily replaced with a Socket 7 CPU heatsink and fan combo.

This may provide a more efficent method of cooling however, I am hesitant to overclock my GeForce2, for if it were to cause any damage, I would have to spend a bundle to get a new one.

Instead of overclocking and stuff. First you should flash the Video BIOS to the newest version, and then grab the latest drivers. That will speed things up considerably. Then you can tweak out the games so they will run fast on your card.

If you really want to overclock your GeForce2 then find an overclocking utility to help you.

Sorry, I am unfamiliar to the term "lapping", could you explain it to me?

You don't want to lap the modern socket style processors. The little bump is the CPU die, and if you try to lap it, you will very quickly hit circuitry. However, you can lap heatsinks, as there are no vital components that may be destroyed (make sure you clear the mounting bracket though). As for the GPU, that has a good layer of protection, but I don't see any way to lap it (since it is mounted to the PCB, and all). I recommend you clean up the GPU really well (get off all the gunk), and lap the heatsink, but nothing more.

As for overclocking, I suggest you increase in small increments, and when you start to notice visual artifacts, back down a couple Mhz.
