BlackIce Defender is good, LockDown2000 is better! http://www.networkice.com http://www.lockdown2000.com

ZoneAlarm Pro does a decent job for the money. Or if its just for your home PC, go with the "FREE" ZoneAlarm.

Whoa! Randy, where you get that info? LockDown2000 technically isn't even a firewall. See here: http://lockdown2000.bizland.com/claims/firewall.htm

Not to mention the makers of it IMO should be in jail. Whatever you do HarryPotter, don't touch LockDown2000 with a ten foot pole.

We also think Lockdown2000 is ****. (http://www.antionline.com/cgi-bin/News?type=antionline&date=10-30-2000&story=lock.news)

I like this guy's summary: I would not recommend this program if it were freeware, let alone at the price of $99. This program is probably even dangerous for users without much computer security experience since it lulls them into a false sense of security.
Review of LockDown 2000 (http://home.domaindlx.com/mischel/lockdown_review.asp#5)

And this guy's comment 'bout sums it up: I always thought that Lockdown2000 was a gift to give to friends that you want to be able to attack online? "A little legality" (http://www.zdnet.com/pcmag/stories/opinions/0,7802,2656454,00.html)

Thanks for the links, OuTpaTienT.

I opened up the newsgroup from GRC and through it found this this page (http://www.themestream.com/gspd_browse/browse/view_article.gsp?c_id=123754&id_list=&cookied=T) Looks like it's worth a review.

TrendMicro also has a free online virus scanner: http://housecall.antivirus.com/

I agree with the LD2000 consensus, btw. The issues with LockDown have been noted for quite some time.

I recommend Zone Alarm! I've used it for over a year, and I haven't had any problems with it. If ur willing to pay for the complete version, your on your way to having a secure computer. I would go with it mainly because it's free, but also because of how much praise GRC has given it! http://www.grc.com
check out the link for more info. on that.

u have my opinion.

If you're going to use BID, be sure to get and use a good Trojan scanner such as Tauscan to give you some protection from sneaky programs which you(and BID)aren't aware of that are running on your computer.
BID will only stop intruders from entering, it can't do anything about stopping information from leaving your computer without your permission or knowledge. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

How about the Sygate Personal Firewall which is reviewed right here at EARTHWEB. It is free, and they respond well to requests for help.
