SLX 06-08-2002, 04:10 AM Great, Im sitting hear with a 'sexy' empty PC case for my next system and they can't give a date when to market the Throughbread or the Hammer. I just need a new system before I have to go back to college. wallie_x 06-09-2002, 02:20 AM Another web site had a link to a dealer in Duetschland, offering a .13 micron AMD XP CPU running @ 2500mhz. Germany is were AMD will fab the .13 micron Thoroughbred gibsinep 06-09-2002, 01:13 PM wallie_x do you happen to have that link? wallie_x 06-10-2002, 12:06 PM For some reason they pulled it, but here's another http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/story.html?id=1023317459 My mistake about the running @ 2500mhz. (I can't read German.) AMD has choosen to still use the P4 equivalence rating. The Athlon XP 2500 .13 micron Thoroughbred runs @ 2.0ghz. Sorry!! My mistake.  wallie_x 06-10-2002, 12:54 PM Horror of horrors!! It's all over the web! The Thoroughbred sux!! THG, your depictions are demeaning if not prejudice. I used to respect u; now I think u r into cheap polemics. And don't you think some of us can think equally as well as u? How can you bench, the Athlon XP Thoroughbred 2200 (which runs @ 1.8ghz) and compare it to the P4 2.5 Northwood. Why don't you get a hold of a Thoroughbred 2500 and then compare it to the P4 2.5? Don't u believe in a level playing field? How much stacking the deck must we tolerate, and then your arrogant condescension to boot!!! U think we're all idiots? :x  :x gibsinep 06-10-2002, 03:45 PM Thanks for the link wallie_x :t $1500-P4 gamer 06-10-2002, 08:20 PM Calm down Wallie_X. He did the same thing to P4 claiming it had only half its mem bandwidth and spread propaganda about it. I pointed it out here along time ago. He didnt even bother updateing the article after the P4 was out! He clearly chooses sides on these articles and I take his info with a HUGE GRAIN OF SALT! Know what I mean. Dont let it bother you, I think THG is slipping fast as far as honesty and unbiasedness goes. Dont let it get under your skin. He's going with the crowd! As far as a top review site I take THG lightly from now on.;) spelling:rolleyes: wallie_x 06-10-2002, 08:40 PM It's funny, if you read some of the other tech sites you'll notice that people with western Asian, or other non-European surnames don't resort to the propaganda style of western people when writing analysis. Are we so used to 'Jerry Springer' type phenomena, that it becomes ingrained in us? Just look at the tabloid mags at the checkout counters; people actually believe some of that junk? I agree P4, some places talk out of both sides of their neck at once, but I'm getting a sinking feeling in my stomach, are we really going that low, or are my old hipster ideas so out of touch with reality that I'm weird and Jerrry Springer is normal? :x  :x  SLX 06-10-2002, 11:28 PM He he, big keyboard with little in his brain. I remembered when I went to buy a computer years ago when the TBird (Athlon) was first out it ran at 200Mhz FSB. While the P3 ran at only 100Mhz FSB. The guy told me it was unreliable and not a good chip, that your system crashes alot and your memory has a hard time making the switch from 100Mhz to 200Mhz and all that stuff. None which is realy true. The truth is he only builds systems that use pentiums only and just never dealt with a AMD chip. I bought a P3 anyways but not from him. wallie_x 06-11-2002, 02:54 AM He he, big keyboard with little in his brain. And to whom are you referring in this statement? Sarcasm and humor are great literary tools, but it is so sad when our schools now fail to teach people how to recognize them. P4, spelling? nomenclature dude, I don't type I peck. When speed is of the essence short cuts avail much. rlbogue 06-11-2002, 07:56 AM Originally posted by wallie_x Are we so used to 'Jerry Springer' type phenomena, that it becomes ingrained in us? Funny Wallie... I don't remember once posting a story about teenage lovers jilted. I've never thrown a chair about a story. Perhaps I'm immune ;) Rob $1500-P4 gamer 06-11-2002, 11:26 AM When Jerry Springer comes on I change the channel to Cartoon Network!:p Guess I'm imune too. I'd rather watch toons acting goofy than people, when its people its too close to reality. Scary!:( wallie_x 06-11-2002, 02:30 PM I think you’re right P4. I briefly read four other tech site reviews of the Thoroughbred. One I knew would most likely be particularly biased (AMD zone) and a couple of others who's approach is supposed to be objective. I did notice the difference is style. However, THG's analysis reeked of polemics, and in places demeaning type language. Then again I suppose I should expect a cross spectrum of American culture in everything; even in supposedly 'objective' computer analysis. With that in mind, a 'Jerry Springer' tech web page becomes more of a distinct probability. Love you Jerry!! :-@ Also, the designs of the two main competitors CPU's are becoming so different, it's becoming almost like comparing apples to oranges. P4, tech question. With their current Thoroughbred architechture, how far can they ramp up the FSB? SLX 06-11-2002, 04:37 PM Originally posted by wallie_x And to whom are you referring in this statement? Sorry, I ment the people who right the bad reviews before they even have REAL facts about a product. Scientific evidence like benchmarks, info from the makers stuff like that. gfunkmartin 06-11-2002, 05:08 PM Cartoon network rules! It's the best TV programming you can find On the topic of the Hammer... By the time it actually reaches market, it may have bounced around the media so much that people are sick of it. It may end up being a terrible disappointment because everyone will have hyped it up to something so much more than it actually will be. I say, ignore previews and stories until the chip is actually released... Just my HO Jason $1500-P4 gamer 06-11-2002, 08:19 PM "P4, tech question. With their current Thoroughbred architechture, how far can they ramp up the FSB?" How far can they or will they, that seems to be the question. I personally would love to see 133mhz x 4 =532mhz fsb. A real advantage to that is haveing Nvidia with the dual ddr. With that fsb and mem bandwidth woho! Gameing would rule on that setup, raw power of the Thoroughbred cpu and pure high mem bandwidth like the P4 add to that 512k L2 and it would rock. But I think AMD is holding off for the next big bang! The opteron is where the fsb change is gonna be along with alot more as we all already know, but its quite a ways off yet.:( So for the thoroughbred I see just a die shrink and a increase in mhz.:( Shame really its got alot more potential but its all about aiming you towards the next real inovation. Like gfunkmartin said the only thing to do is wait and see. With all the hype and slaming going on its hard to make a good judgement about the chip at all. Gonna have to wait for REAL people like you to get the chip to find out what it really does!:) I trust we all will know soon. Peace.;) Rugor 06-13-2002, 10:53 PM I'm sorry to tell you P4 that you won't ever see 133x4 (533MHz effective) on the K7 core. It would require far too much of a redesign. However, the EV6 bus, which the Athlon was designed from the ground up to use, was originally designed to allow headroom up to 200MHz (400MHz DDR). So there's no real technical reason why AMD couldn't eventually put Tbred or Barton up to that FSB, which would really increase performance at the high end. However, AMD doesn't really have the financial resources to do the engineering work it would require to qualify processors for that speed. Barton MAY go up to a 166 (333DDR) FSB, but that's the most I really expect. Still a higher base speed with a lower multiplier is going to be more responsive, so we'll have to wait and see. Hammer does sound cool though. Bizkitkid2001 06-14-2002, 10:51 PM I love Tom and Jerry!!!:t :D :p SysOpt.com
