Please answer this only if you do have both processors (xp and p4)...

...which is faster? ;)

I was looking at some benchmarks and it was comparing the new p4 2.2 to a xp 1800+ that is no good. :( I was going to buy a p4 2.2 but now (again) I don't know...

Can you help? Comments?

The P4 is faster without a doubt.

The fastest CPU right now is the P4 2.53GHz.

You stated you were looking at the P4 2.2, are you going to overclock? If not then get the P4 2.26, it's based on 133mhz FBS and 1066 RDRAM. it would make a nice fast system.

If you are going to overclock the P4 overclocks like a beast. It's nothing to get +400mhz out of a P4 Northwood.

So here are some examples:

P4 1.6A to 2.1~2.4 Most will do somewhere around 2.2GHz.

P4 1.8A to 2.2~2.4 Most do 2.4 for 600mhz overclock. Mine did 2.4GHz for + 600mhz I posted Benches at 2350mhz Here: http://sysopt.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=87393&perpage=15&pagenumber=13

P4 2.0A to 2.4~2.6

P4 2.2 to 2.6~2.75 I have one that does 2750MHz sofar. I posted Benches at 2650MHz Here: http://sysopt.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=87393&perpage=15&pagenumber=17

P4 2.4 to 2.8~3.0+ Most will do 3 GHz on air.

P4 2.4B No info on these yet. 133FBS 1066 RDRAM

P4 2.26B No info on these yet. 133FBS 1066 RDRAM

P4 2.53B No info on these yet. 133FBS 1066 RDRAM

Run a similar-speed P4 through a few benchies, then run the XP. Who wins? XP

Run a faster P4 (2.4Ghz) against an XP2000+ (1.7GHz). Who tops out? Not the P4......:)

The Northwoods are admittadly the bee's knees just now, but the price is extortionate. Get an XP2100+ and be damned with Int-hell!

I have several XP and P4 rigs running at work.

I have a P4 2.0Ghz NW, and it seriously gets it's *** spanked by any of the XP1800's, in many fields, but in other fields the P4 is faster.

When will people learn that ya can't say that 1 cpu is faster then the other??

If you'd compare an XP to a P4 Mhz for Mhz, the XP spanks the P4 to death, no doubt about it.

But, it all comes down to this:

What are ya planning on using it for?? Different cpu's fit different needs ya know.

I myself was a sole AMD man, but now also own a dual PIII 1Ghz rig as a server.
I'm loving it, as a server, but it is nowhere near the performance of my single cpu'd Tbird 1.2Ghz.
