Twitching pointer driving me mad

Hope someone can help. I've tried everything! I built a new system ( Epox 8HKA+, Athlon 900, 384mb SDRam PC2100 DDR, ATI Radeon 8500 64mb DDR.) Installed Win98se and the cursor twitches and blinks, diappears and reappears. The hourglass flashes in an out. Tried new install of 98se. Tried Intellipoint upgrade. Tried switching video cards. Changing AGP setting (4x to 2x). Nothing seems to work. It's like the machine is constantly working and the mouse pointer is reacting to it.

Any suggestions?

I had a similar situation sans hourglass, but the constantly flickering pointer is enough to drive you mad! I used alt-cntrl-dlt to begin shutting down programs to find out who was writing to the desktop....turned out to be my anti-virus program. An upgrade to the program fixed it...Hope this helps!:t
