Hi,

I have lately upgraded to a AMD Duron 1.2 Ghz and when I open too much applications like Word, The internet and others, it sometimes freezes.

I have tried to stress the CPU to see if that was it and it wasn't.

Would anyone know what could be wrong.

Thanks,

Alex.

How big is your powersupply?
Is you board a VIA if so what chipset?
What is your system and cpu temp?

Was it just the cpu you upgraded? If it was the motherboard as well you should start with a fresh install or update your bios. Try disabling apps running in the background see if it stops. Are you using the rite hs/f for the cpu with some thermal compound? If the duron is not being cooled properly this would cause freezing bigtime.

My power supply is the 240 Volts. I don't know what the watts is but it is a regular power supply.

My motherboard is Via Chipset KT266A.

My system temperature is about 25 Celsuis and CPU is around 42 Celsuis.

Once I upgraded the computer I reinstalled Windows '98 SE.

The motherboard was also bought in the upgrade.

I have disabled many programs running in the background.

I bought the heatsink for a 1.3 Ghz Duron, so it should be ok.

Oh yeah I have also bought a new video card, The diamond viper v770 32 mb sdram. Before when I had another video card the computer worked fine and there was no crashes.

Maybe i should update the drivers or something.

Thanks,

Alex.

Yea try updated drivers if not reseat your video card a couple of times might be all it needs temps look fine, reseat the ram to or try different slots if not might look to your power supply since you upgraded a few things the draw might be too much for an old psu if its on its way out it could be the source of your problems they tend to do alot of wierd things when they go bad.

Also make sure that for some odd reason your old video casrd drivers are still installed. If they are that is what could be casuing th problem. Look for osme deivice conflicts in device manager.
