Hi all. I am having the following trubs with windows xp pro. I do not and have not installed internet connection sharing on my computer. Now when I access the internet there is about a 10 second pause then the systray pops up and says that a new networking device has been installed. When i click on the network icon it lists my lan connection and internet connection sharing. I do not want internet connection sharing and I can not get rid of it for good. So I to set up a network using the wizard and it says the following " internet connection sharing detected for unknown internet connection sharing " This is weird and I have run a full virus scan on my system ( all files ). I have the following network setup: DSL modem to linksys router - machine 1 on port 1 and machine 2 on port 3. all other ports open. nic cards in both machines are set up manual with static ips and so forth. Also machine 2 has the same trub. Both machines running windows xp pro and this trub just started 3 or 4 days ago. No matter what i do it installs this internet connection sharing ****. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh and I checked the services function under admin tools and found that internet connection sharing is NOT enabled even when its installed. If i disable this then i lose all internet connection as well as the home lan. Also under device listings there is no internet connection sharing device listed but its there under network icon on desktop

Hi all and thanks for the link. The link will tell you on how to set it up and it didn't go over the ICS function of windows. This did not help. So im back to square one. I was told to check for the Unplug and Play to see if its enabled because I did upgrade the firmware in the linksys router which supports unplug and play function of windows xp pro. Could this be be the trub??? I will try it tonight when I get home from work. Also what I noticed is that the LAN link speed is 100Mbits but the ICS link speed is 3.2 Mbits. I completed a line test of my dsl connection and I am still getting 1.36 Mbit line speed. If I disable the ICS networking then I lose all internet activity as well as the home lan I have. So the link speeds is what im confussd about.

Page 4 and 5 of the article does go over the setup slightly, although the author does suggest using a proxy server such as AnalogX.

I have personally used AnalogX and WinGate proxy for different reasons. My family uses ICQ instant messanger which AnalogX proxy does not support yet so I was forced to use Wingate proxy. The extra cost involved ($80 for a 6 user license) rubbed me the wrong way so I invested several hours and now I run Windows 2000 ICS on my cable modem/router with no problems. I prefer using DHCP instead of any static IP address schemes.
