I have 3 hard drives at least 5 years old
that still work fine: 1 each by Seagate,
Quantum, and Connor. do you have old
hard drives that still work, and who made them?

I have an 8 year old Samsung 420MB HDD and an old 3GB Maxtor HDD... They're still running healthy. I use them for mobile disks to transfer files from one system to another....

I got a 20MB Seagate (10 years old) that worked untill two months ago that I took it out -too loud.

My 8 year old Conner 420 still used (squid space)

a 1.6GB Quantum primary OS drive on a linux box (bit noisy, otherwise great) must be 5 year old now.

a 2.1 Seagate, primary OS drive on another linux box, at least 4 year old.

I have an IBM 200 Mb SCSI drive (8 years old). Use it as a swap disk, in my No 2 Linux box. Still going strong.

otheos: hmmmm your old drives are
also conner, seagate, and quantum!
thats sort of what i was trying to find
out, which hard drives are the most
reliable. I notice only one maxtor and no
western digital in this thread.

I have 3 Western Digital HDs, the oldest of which is from 1994, a 850MB HD. I use that for the long d/l videos (wear & tear).

I've got a lot of Seagates -never had a problem with any of them, the oldest is a 245MB, originally top of the line, and huge. now it's used at my freinds school, students are allowed to type reports and things on the comp its in.

Delicate equipment. Handle with care.
Product warrenty will be void if Drive experiences shock in excess of 75 Gs
also had some quantums, none are older than 1GB, but had no problems with them, Maxtors have had alot of trouble, I've had 3, 2 have died, the third was a replacement because it was under warrenty at the time.

Have a 5yr old hard drive from JTS Corporation. No bad sectors; no problems with it yet.
Still have an 85.3MB IDE Western Digital hard drive too; still works good; no bad sectors.
