This is a question about a game, but it doesn't really fit in gaming. One of the games I play has been overrun with cheating as of late. It's mostly one cheat that is being used, the game is a 1st person shooter and has certain options in the game that allow you to turn "on" or "off" certain things such as Auto-Aim, Show Enemies and several more.
Well of course no one plays with Auto-aim and such, so the host can turn it off. Well this program (cheat) is a program that runs in the background, which allows the cheater to turn these options on for himself. Clearly giving him the advantage. I don't want to get into a "is cheating right or wrong thing", I think it's lame.
The game maker's vice pres. sent him a order to stop putting out this cheat, quoting the lic. agreement. The guy that made the program is about 16 and is thumbing his nose at the game maker. Well I'm wondering dose the game maker have a chance at legally stopping him, being he had to use the games offsets for his program to work? This is the quote from the Lic. that I think apply:
3. Additional Prohibited Uses. Neither you, nor anyone at your
direction, shall take the following action in regard to the Software, or
any portion thereof, such as a screen display or a screenshot:
a. Modify, disassemble, reverse engineer or decompile the
Software;
b. Translate the Software;
c. Reproduce the Software;
d. Publicly display the Software; or
e. Prepare derivative works based upon the Software.
Also one important fact, is his latest version of the program he decided too sell. So the only way people can get it, is if they pay him 5 dollars. Once he did this , the gaming company took action. This is when they sent him the E-mail, I duno if it was just timing or if it was the fact he started charging for his cheat. This is the part of the Lic that I think apply here:
2. Commercial Use is Prohibited. Under no circumstances shall
you, the end-user, be permitted, allowed or authorized to commercially
exploit the Software, or any portion thereof, such as a screen display or
a screenshot.
Neither you nor anyone at your direction shall do any of the following
acts:
a. Rent the Software;
b. Sell the Software;
c. Lease or lend the Software;
d. Offer the Software on a pay-per-play basis;
e. Distribute the Software; or
f. In any other manner and through any medium
whatsoever commercially exploit the Software or use the Software for
any commercial purpose.
well what do you people think, can he be stopped? His cheat has pretty much ruined the game for most honest players. I hate to see a kid ruin his future because he's doing some dumb things, but I'd also like to see the cheat be stopped.
PS) he has since claimed his 5 dollar charge is for delivery and not for the program it's self.
