Upgraded from Win. 98 to 98SE, all was fine as long as I was using the computer. I had 98 set to stay awake at all times, forgot to set 98SE to "Never". Problem is that after monitor went to sleep, moving mouse brought monitor back up with fuzzy text, fine before it went on standby. At normal brightness the text is unreadable, dimming helps some. What happened, and how can I adjust the focus? Using ViewSonic E641 with ATI Expert 2000 Pro card. I'm going from 1 problem to another.
Thanks Dan

have you downloaded the latest inf file from www.viewsonic.com? What about the latest ATI drivers (unless they are supplied with the Windows disk)

You have obviously restarted your computer, is the display the same on other machines?

Doc, all upgrading was done using another monitor (at work) and when I got home and booted up, it found my monitor, loaded 98SE drivers and all was fine. Only after waking up was the text bad. Color in pictures etc. are almost as good as before. Using the origional ATI driver, but it was OK on my first boot up, and fine for a few hours. That is why I ask for a way to focus the monitor.
Thanks Dan

I don't think you can focus the monitor image but have you tried changing refresh rates?

One of my monitors show hard to read text but that's because the monitor is old (very old!!! :D).

You can change the focus on your monitor. However it involves removing the casing. Once you've done that you can use a philips head screwdriver (or a proper nylon TV alteration tool) to change the focus by inserting it in the 'focus' hole thing on the rear of the EHT transformer, usualy big and black with a heatsink nearby.
There is usualy another setting called 'screen' which changes the brightness of the display just next to or below the focus control.

The text now is clear. Only thing that has changed was that yesterday a pop up window came up asking if I wanted to make Netscape my default mailer reader (or something like that). Netscape was already my mail reader, don't know why it asked, but I said yes and since then, the text has been OK. Am I just lucky, or was something in Netscape causing the problem, and the problem will return? Thanks to all for the help. Dan

Not sure how something like netscrape could cause your problems. Still sounds like a driver/monitor problem which might be intermitant.
I supose since netscape have pretty much lost the browser war they might have done something to punish the people who deserted them :) but it doesn't sound quite feasable.
Wait a while and see if the problem reapears.
