I will getting a sony dvd-rw drive model # DRU120A as a gift, but how good are they? Is it worth it to get it now?

Im just comparing the 1st cdrw drives which they started to introduce in the market & it was 2x speed then, now you can get as far as 40x speed comes with burn proof technology too....any comments are very welcome....thanks in advance

cd-rw have improved dramatically, I remember using the 2x drives and having to let things copy overnight as went to sleep. Now it's like I grab a snack and they're done.

I too considered getting a dvd-rw drive but then I looked at the pricing and didn't think it was to worthwhile, $20+ for a disk (9.4gb), where as I could could get cd-rw for under 0.50 so: 40 x 0.50 = $20 but I get 750mb x 40 = 30gb

But then you could get floppy's for free 1.44mb x infinety = infinety or at least a couple thousands of terabytes. But it's pretty pointless since they're so slow, so I guess that's what dvd-ram media going to be like, faster and more expensive, most people just aren't ready for that much power and price.
