emulator system OS

I want to run a dedicated arcade emulator system, and i want an OS that won't eat very many resources. Anyone have suggestions (It will be playing things from classics up to a couple of years ago.)

Learn to program, make, "EmmuOS" or maybee just try to find emulators for linux, as long as you stay out of x, it is very efficient. Also, DOS does not suck up too many system recorces, and since it is easier to program for than windows, most sytems have emulators on it.
