Someone told me they had gone to a local computer store and bought a hard drive mounting bracket for $15. It takes it out of one of the bays and puts it somewhere else in your computer (NOT in a 5.5".) That way you could install a zip drive, another 1.4meg or hd. Anyone heard of this? I've found a few online that fit a 3.5 to a 5.5 bay, but I'm planning on using my 5.5. Any idea how easy this kind of transfer (bay to bracket) would be?

Thanks,
Adam

Many cases have detachable internal HD brackets or bays in their design. Possibly this is what was purchased. Usually only fit properly in the case it was designed for, but have "adapted" some before.
HD can easily be mounted anywhere the cable reaches, have even seen some taped to power supply, although I wouldn't recommend it!
Most cases allow for two internal bays, your's doesn't?
Would be kind of hard to tell you best way to mount it without seeing the case, every one is different. Worst are the "major brand" machines like Packard-Bell. HP, IBM, etc. Some of those have almost no space for relocation.

Do you have a flat space that you can drill holes in for the hard drive? Free!

heh heh heh. puting stuff in a packard bell... that brings back memories. not good ones, neither! for some reason, my PB's 5&1/4 bay was for a 5&1/4 floppy drive, not for a cd-rom. i spent 2 months trying to get that thing to work, before i just took it a computer shop, where they had to work on it 3 weeks before they could get it to work. the moral? never, never, never buy a packard bell!
