I have laboured for many a year with my old AMD K6 450 and PCChips mobo and whilst it has and still does perform all I want of it (business use) I have aquired at no cost (!) an AMD Athlon K7 900 and I would like to feel the benefit of it....

Will it feel substantially faster?

So what is the best board for this processor and what is the socket type (I'm out of touch these days)?

Will it suit my present memory (pc100)?

If anyone reads this and is local with a board for sale please contact me.

Meanwhile I would be very grateful for any help.

Is your CPU a "slot" type (like old PII/Celeron) or a "socket" type (like todays Pentium 4) ?
It will definitely be faster then your present setup, even with the same PC100 memory.

The Athlon should be more than twice as fast as the K6. You really need to provide us with the form factor.

Your memory should work fine depending on the board you purchase.

The Athlon came in two different packages one being Socket A (http://images.anandtech.com/reviews/cpu/amd/athlon/thunderbird/1.33G/1.33G.jpg) and the other being Slot A. (http://www.anandtech.com/cpu/showimage.html?u=/reviews/cpu/amd/athlon/athlon-cart.gif) Seeing how you said socket type I would think it is a Socket A Athlon

It will feel much faster.

It the case an AT or ATX?
