I jjust reloaded a friends computer with Windows 98 SE to correct a multitude of problems and all works well. However, when he goes into on-line gaming using Netscape 4.7 (he won't upgrade) and into www.Pogo.com and next the Bridge thread. The computer hangs when it gets to the final step. He has a PII class computer with 220meg memory and enough hard disk available. I suspect it is a setting I missed.

He has a PIII laptop running almost identically to the above and there is no problem. I know nothing about Netscape so it could be a setting there.

Nothing crucial here but just aggrevating.

No response yet. Should I give up on this one?

probably a good bet.

Comeon man, netscape is **** in many peoples minds, and even that you are using version 4.7 - it is up to 7 (or 6.x recentiest (great English) version). Is your mate a nutter?

An awful lot of people have moved to IE because it is piddle to use. If your mate still insists on using Netscape update him to the latest shockwave / flash, maybe the support for the older browser is non-existant.

Thanks for your advice and insite to Netscape. I agree entirely with you comments but am faced with the common delimma that the majority of folks are resistant to change. This is especially true of older folks. They know what they know and have no urge to go forward.

This will eventually lead to trouble but until they crash completely, they like status quo. Therein lies my problem. Convincing them to move forward.

The most useful bit of information you gave was about shockwave/flash. I will investigate this. Keep in mind that this application runs perfectly on a W98SE computer with Netscape 4.7 running right next to it.

I am really out of my realm here.

What does Shockwave/Flash do?? I am not a game player but don't know if it is used elsewhere.

When reloading W98SE on a computer, does Shockwave/Flash automatically get loaded?

If an online game is looking for SW/F, could the whole computer hang while it looks for it?
