I am just about ready to format my hard drive and do a celan install of WinXP Pro. I was just wondering if there was a way that I could transfer all my Outlook Express 6 saved emails and put them back in there after I was done installing XP?

I was thinking I could just forward all my emails to my account and then check my account when I had XP running.

BTW, I have Win98SE right now.

I'm not certain, but you should be able to export the files to floppy etc. from Outlook and import back after the install.

Highlight the email you want to save and save it to wordpad as mail.

Do this to all of the ones you want to save then copy them to a floppy...;)

Thanks guys for the info!!

But, one question...

How do you get the email back into outlook express, and be able to see it in the same folders and everything?

Do it this way: This is the proper way.

From within Outlook Express, go to Tools>Options>Click on the "Maintenance" tab, click the button that says "Store Folder".

When that "Store Folder" dialog box pops up, it's going to show you the location of your Outlook Express .dbx files. These files are where all your email is stored, i.e., inbox.dbx, sent items.dbx, etc. , etc.

These are the files you need to back up. Back them up onto removable media. When you need them back again after you have reinstalled, simply open up Outlook Express and use the "Import" feature to import them back in.

A fast way to find the .dbx folder is to when when you click the maintenance tab and select "Store Folder", highlight the path and and right click and select "copy" . The go to your "run line" (Start>Run) and paste it in and hit enter. Your .dbx store folder will pop up. Go to the "Edit" menu and choose "Select All" , then click "copy". Now paste them onto removable media such as a floppy. (if they'll fit, if not use a CD)

Also , export your Address Book Contacts too and save them.

you people don't read help files do you all it took is to open outlook click on help>search>backup and there it is

and I really think that the fastest way to find *.dbx files is :

start>search>for files and folders and then type *.dbx and you have all your dbx files in one place just select them and copy to fllopy or something...

and you can allways use drag and drop feature just select mail or all mails (Ctrl+A) and drag them to some backup folder

and returning them is just reverced you select all mails from that folder and drag it to outlook very simple operation :t
