I have been seeing the 7volt trick get a lot of attention lately and I had a question. How hard and what problems could I expect adding switches to this?

It seems simple enough but for me unless it is a total no brainer me and electricity dont get along.

What I would like as an end result would be using 2 position switches with 1 for 12v/1 for 7v. This way there would be no off for the switches and keep me out of "stupid" troubles.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. I think it would be neat to have a Capt.Proton like set of switches on the front of my case for idle/surf mode 7v-game mode 12v .....Thanks Mykex

Ohh and really extra unnecessary coolness would be if the switches light up especially if it could be EASILY done with the tip light switches that go from red to green. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Don't want much do you ?? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Switching is easy, but be careful. As for the two colour illuminated switches, you find them, I'll tell you how to wire them.
Never seen bi-colour toggle switches anywhere, maybe some other sysoptians can help.
Each switch needs to be a single pole change over.

OK OK I got carried away with the lights. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif My confusion is mostly because of using a common power to different grounds instead of the more normal opposite. I will look into getting some single pole change over switches and give it a try.

The wiring is easy, but get it right.

I will draw it for you

How about adding a rheostat rather than a switch? The fan speed would be variable rather than just 2 positions. You could also install a little warning light or a led, a warning light on the fan side would become brighter as the resistance dropped. Just an idea! Biff

Hey thanks Graham copied and saved that,it makes more sense seeing it than reading it. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif
I would have gone after -5 and got a difference of 17v across the circuit....those would have been some fast fans for a minute or two. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gifAfter the visual some of my basic electronic knowledge came back.
