I picked this up from woodywatch
"There has been a rumor that Microsoft was "mining" all
mentions of Microsoft's products on the Internet, in an
attempt to evaluate PSS technicians, MVPs, and others who
give out advice.
Ends up that it isn't a rumor - and it's on the up-and-up.
Microsoft is mining posts on newsgroups to determine how
many times individuals post on newsgroups, which newsgroups
they post on, and the like. There's no attempt (or so I'm
assured) to track PSS technicians, MVPs, or people like you
and me."
http://netscan.research.microsoft.com/Netscan/Frames/Main_Frame.asp?AID=&firsttime=&email45=&emailaddr=&NGSearch=&SearchType=&content=&strbgcolo
this could be worse than you might imagine look up other news groups and type of posting and you will see how and what is being tracked all the way down to ip level
it is possible to data mine people to this degree in public what are they else are they doing behind the scenes
They can show users down to alis and crossposting ip logs and who says that it is limited to the public forums who is to say that they are not useing the technoligy to track each and every one of us no matter which id we post from or where
who will control the data controls each and all of us
