Hey all, I just got my new Ti4600 yesterday from Chaintech. I set up my computer according to the hand book (like setting it to standard VGA) then after I install my new card the computer boots up but hangs at that black screen right before it loads up the desktop !?!?! If I CAD it (ctrl+alt+del) it will prompt me to restart in safe mode, if I choose to start it back up in normal mode there is a message stating that the file that controls the display on your screen isnt working and please install a newer display driver, if I can get into windows, I install DX8.1 first like it says then I install the display drivers like it says then it askes to restart, Ok everything should be fine now, when it restarts it will hang at the "updating system settings", so I CAD it and it has Rundll32 as not responding, if I end task to that it will load into windows, but when I try to open my display properties it will hang, when I CAD that it has "display properties not responding" (what the hell!!!) ok so now I load the VGA Utility disk that came with the new card and go to "change resolution", that hangs, when I CAD that it has that Rundll32 thingy not responding again. This is VERY frustrating, I just spent 310 on this thing and now I might have to spend 50 more to have Best Buy install the thing, and my warranty with Alienware is up (the last time I was getting support the guy was helping me out ok and everything, then when he came back from a hold he told me that he was just informed that my warranty was up and he could no longer help me, he left me in BIOS not knowing what to do next, basically it was like "screw you have a nice day).I have had problem with this computer from day one, now this, come on give me a break, im sick of it. anyway. If ANYONE knows what to do about this PLEASE tell me im so fed up with this system i just want it to work, everything I have done to get it to work hasnt.
My specs are as followed
Windows ME
512mgs DDR
GeForce4Ti4600 (currently, I have my GeForce2GTS for backup)
ASUS A7V266
AMD Athlon 1.2Ghz
no anti-virus or firewall programs are running
all drivers up to date
all unnecessary programs are turned off (through msconfig)
Please Help!

Here are my thoughts on your problems:

1. Windows ME s**ks
2. Best Buy is a bad place to buy computer components from my own personal experince with them.

If you are unhappy with the way your system is working, back up all important data and reformat the system. Make sure you have all your program CDs and drivers and ID Numbers. Try getting your hands on Win2000 or just use Win98SE. You can buy Rixio's Go Back if you like that feature from WinME Go Back.

Use System Restore from Safe Mode. Boot right back into Safe Mode if the new card is still in. Don't let PnP install the new drivers! In Safe Mode, change the driver for the old card to Standard VGA. Reboot directly back into Safe Mode again and go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the old video drivers.

Now you can safely return to windows and try the new drivers.

You might want to try updating or changing versions of your VIA 4 in 1 chipset drivers. I once had some issues with my black opening screen very similar yours and this helped.
