I just installed xp on my old dell laptop
I have a yamaha crw2200ux burner (usb)
when I plugged in xp it sad your computer does not have hi-speed usb port.
A burner speed only give me choise between 1x or 4x speed
I had installed on win 98 and it was working on 20x speed fine

That's impossible. USB 1.1 cannot burn faster than 4x. Your old setup was either misreporting the burn speed or you were using a USB 2.0 cardbus adapter and you don't have the XP USB 2.0 driver installed properly now.

Open System Information (MSINFO32.EXE) and navigate to Hardware Resources > IRQs. Click anywhere in the right pane and then press CTRL-A and then CTRL-C. You have copied that data to the clipboard. Paste that data in a reply here.
Also look in Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus for a notice. Take a screen shot (ALT-Print Screen) and paste it into Paint. Save it as a JPEG and attach it to your reply.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but final build of WinXP (2600) didn't have USB2.0 drivers yet. Maybe you should run WinXP Update service or update your drivers from laptop's manufacturer.

Yes, Evil Moderator( ), I was getting to that. Unfortunately, for some boneheaded reason, MS is still doling out the Beta 1 (designated "B1") version of the XP 2.0 driver. It's really best to hoist a generic one from SIIG or I/O Gear.

I'm sorry, but there's no way that system has USB 2.0. That chipset is about 4 years old. Someone lied to you. There's also no way that this USB controller can give you a 20x burn. It's limited to 12Mbits/second or 1.5MBytes/second. 20x burns require about 10MB/s.
Are you sure you didn't have a USB 2.0 card? This is what you need:

USB 2.0 only went "gold" last summer.

Well 20x is actually about 3MB/s but Bill's point is still valid.
