I read off of http://afrosquad.com/mpchevy2.html , that you can change a line in the system.ini from shell="explorer.exe" to shell="c:\program files\winamp\winamp.exe" for a dedicated MP3 server. Will I lose support for any peripherals? Or will I just drop the graphical environment?
Any other ways to speed up boot time?

I believe that if you modify the shell in any way you will "upon windows boot" get a white box indicating that you need to reinstall your operating system. Although you really could just change the line back again. I had this problem once when I was experimenting with programs such as "window shades" , programs that change the appearance of the GUI.. although I do not know of the results of your direct query.
give it a try.

Szech, you won't lose anything -- it's just a shell. I use shell=taskman.exe sometimes. But how will you work w/your file system? You can do it by typing:
explorer.exe
in the Start/ Run line.

Interesting... This is actually for a TV computer that will be running at most 5 programs (WinAmp, DVD player, some game emulators)... If I were to make a program in Visual Basic that accesses these other programs, would it work out okay?
Thanks for the info.
