Anyway to clean old cdrw?

I was given and old Phillips Omniwriter cdrw external drive. It reads fine but refuses to write. I get a write output error after it reads from a CDrom or disk image. Is there an easy way to clean the lenses or is it just more tonnage for the junk heap? :(

Since your past the point of no return try using a can of air to get the dust off the lens or take it apart and physically clean the lens and the rest of the parts see how you make out, I have taken apart cdroms to get some extra mileage back in the days of yore.
