Well, I started on the "keg" case this afternoon, man, those beer kegs are 1/8 inch thick aluminum! Talk about heat dissipation for an over-clocked machine http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Heres' a few shots I took to document this adventure http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

And one more of some grumpy ol gray headed ****...wait, that's me http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif http://webpages.cableamericahsa.com/Randy48/me.jpg

I do need some advice, I'll go with which ever idea gets the best results! This is in reference to mounting the floppy and CD.

Idea 1: Cut a hole in the side of the keg and mount the floppy and CD as in a "normal computer case. Or

Idea 2: Cut a "door" in the side of the keg with a latch and hinges and mount the floppy and CD on the inside of the door so that to use either, you have to open the door!

Thanks! Any other ideas are also welcome! I plan on getting this one finished by next weekend if the weather doesn't get too cold!

Hey, I bet if you keep only one hole in that puppy, you could super-cool the system by sticking the whole thing in a bucket of ice like you normally would do with a keg of beer. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Use that one hole you alredy cut for the CD, Floppy etc, make a rack so everything slides out that hole....... nah...that won't work....

If ya noticed that car fan laying next to the keg, that' goes on top of the big hole for cooling http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif I've already drilled 8 holes around the bottom for air intake. After I build a mount for the fan and test it, I might drill more http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

So much for the ice bucket.... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif You might consider trying to flatten the side of the keg to get a flat enogh srface for the drives. I don't know if you want any fasteners showing on the outside of the keg, if not, you may need to weld the drive and MB supports to the inside of the keg. That might be a little out of your proposed budget if you don't have the equipment to do the welding yourself.

I say screw the door, and paint the front of the disk and cd-rom drives metallic!

Well, I've solved the problem about how to mount the floppy and CD drives http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Two power supplies won't fit in the keg with a full size mobo, so...I build a wooden case to housre the two PSUs and also the two drives, I will probably also mount the HD in there as well http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif The keg will sit on top of the box! Starting to take shape and look good! I built and installed the mounting rails for the mobo inside the keg, modified an old 230 watt AT PSU for the fan, and added a few more vent holes to the bottom of the keg. With the 12 volt car fan on top of the keg, it sucks up all the saw dust and aluminum chips from the workbench through the holes and sends the stuff flying http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif This thing is going to be one giant heatsink http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
