Ok I went to Soyo's website to see which proccercer my 7VEM can support. Simple enough, right? First I go to the comptaibilty list. http://www.soyousa.com/supp-faq-1gcpu.htm It says it supports a 950 mhz Celeron.

Then I go to my computer manual which says 700 mhz Celeron.
http://www.soyousa.com/manuals/quick-sg/q7vem12.PDF

Now here again at soyousa.com we see 1.0 GHZ Celeron.
http://www.soyousa.com/products/proddesc.php?id=13

Now which is right? Please help or I will waste $80+ ..............

Thanxs

It will take the first but not the underlined...;)

Supports Intel ® FC-PGA 370 Pentium III, Celeron (1G, 1.75V / 0.18 micron) & VIA Cyrix III Processors (Celeron 1G, 1.475V, 0.13 micro CPU not supported

Make sure it says FC-PGA 370 Pentium III

Well, it would be hard for Soyo to come to your home and retrieve that old manual. Things change and faster processors become available after something is written.

With a BIOS update, that motherboard will handle any non-Tualatin Celeron. That means that you should avoid any Celeron "A"-type or FC-PGA2. That board maxes out with this CPU:

Agree with the previous comments, your manual is obviously outdated. I would find it pretty strange if your board supports a 950MHz Celeron, but not a 1GHz COPPERMINE based Celeron (the Coppermine being key, as there is also the Tualatin based Celeron at 1GHz). The easiest way to ID the Celeron may be the L2 cache, 128KB is a Coppermine, 256KB is a Tualatin (note, this doesn't apply to PIII's only Celerons).

now my manual is "The Quickstart Guide". The link above is the highest one they have. You can't see the real manual beacuse it's one a cd and you can only use the cd on a 7VEM based machine. I have the highest revison of the board, 1.2 and according to Soyo it's the "May 2001" editon. But since I have no other socket 370 CPU, I can't flash the BIOS if the 1 ghz Celeron truly does't work. It's a Catch 22, Get the 1ghz and if it doesn't work I wasted $80+. Get a slower CPU I will feel stupid to find out it can support the 1 ghz. Now I assume (since the board was not OEM) that it does have the 2nd to the highest BIOS. The highest Bios only "Support VIA 8601 CE Version". But I have to order the CPU buy the end of the week. So i need to decide.:(

Get the 1Ghz, Bob. The worst that could happen is the board doesn't have a 10x multiplier. I had an older Soyo board that was not rated for over a 800Mhz P3 and, sure enough, there was no 8.5x multiplier in BIOS. Guess what? The board set it up as 850Mhz anyway! I still had an FSB adjustment too.

Go into BIOS and see what your choices are.

I e-mail Soyo and they said it CAN'T support more than 950 mhz because of the chipset. But I can get a 66fsb*10.5 so I can't see why I can't get 100*10.0 or even 133*10.5:rolleyes:

If you can select it in BIOS, you have your answer.

If it were me I would get the 950 just to be safe...:)

I don't think that you'll be able to tell the difference anyway..;)
