I'm having a problme with my computoer. It seems that as I load a new page and start typing in the cursor just sits there and doesn't display anything. I receintly upgraded this machine with XP Pro and a new hardrive. I reinstalled all software and the thing seemed to work fine. I have Norton Dr and anti-virus on it and the machine seems to check out fine. But as I type it locks up and then all of a sudden it takes off and displays. Is this something with XP that I don't understand? I seems that the cursor is jumping around and sometimes it types stuff that I haven't.
Suggestions?

Is this a USB keyboard?
Have you updated your virus definitions recently? Click on Start > Run > (type) LUALL > OK. Update and scan again thoroughly.

It is not a usb. I keep the definitiions updated at least weekly. Will try again.
Be sure your mobo/case is grounded properly and your keyboard as well too if it has any metallic parts. I had this problem once with my old "Brother" keyboard.

I've had similar problems with two Logitech Cordless Keyboards and an older, junk (actually complete ****) p.o.s. Turbo X-Wing Keyboard that was always locking up my whole system (makes a great .22 target though). I haven't had any virus problems either, so I wonder how a keyboard can jam a system? If the keyboard sends conflicting signals (that your CPU interprets), can a CPU lock up in an endless cycle of mis-interpretation??

Well, I tryed a few things this a.m. I changed my virtual memory. It was at 768 and it suggested 763 so I changed it. Changed my temp file size to 1900, and did a disk clean of all temp files. It seem to be fine now. I guess I will see what other kind of problems this might cause. Thanks all..:t

Wait, wait, wait. You changed your virtual memory from 768 to 763, and you think THAT helped?? My guess is then that you have 512mb of RAM. I doubt that had anything to do with it. Too small of a change. I doubt you had a keyboard issue in the first place (more like a memory allocation situation), and I also doubt you're checking this thread anymore, so I'll just stop right here...)-|

No, I'm still checking the thread and have subscribed to it. I thought that such a little change shouldn't have made such a big deal. Tell me more, since I just upgraded to XP PRO I'm not familiar with setting for optimum performance.
I do have 512 altho it only shows 510, I have a 40 gig with about 28 free, total windows memory is 1970, 216 used, and 1754 free. It sometimes pastes text in an area where I've done nothing. For example, I switched from this page to System information page, and when I switched back, there was this text "the bad" in the thread. This isn't something that I've even copied??
Tell me more!

You had better scan that PC for viruses yesterday! What does it take to get your attention?
When you get rid of the virus, set VM to 700 min and 700 max.

Might it be your mouse instead of your keyboard? Try unplugging it and booting up to find out. You'll have to fiddle a little to get around in XP though.

Maybe your KB just went south. I hear they hate junk food. Maybe you should just try another one just to see. Mine quit once when I spilled a bowl of mongoose stew on it. :D

My Original Post "I have Norton Dr and anti-virus on it and the machine seems to check out fine. But as I type it locks up and then all of a sudden it takes off and displays."
I have the updated definitions on them and it comes back clean.

My Original postBut as I type it locks up and then all of a sudden it takes off and displays.
I am bringing a new keyboard home from the store tonight and will try that. I will also try the mouse. I will rescan for viruses after I check for latest definitions again. I will reset my VM. I will report back on what results are. I will also check out the overclockersclub link.

Well, I think that I've found the problem. While typing a comment for another message board last night, I got a call from a friend. As I was talking to him over the phone, I noticed that the computor started typing what I was saying. It must have something to do with voice recognition software. I know that last week I played around with it and now it must be running all the time.
Anyone familiar with this as how I can control it? (other than unpluging my mic as I've done now)
Machine seems to be working great again....

      :p :p :p Anyone familiar with this as how I can control it? Turn it off comes to mind. Uninstall too. Shortcut on the destop? Like normal people?
To think you almost had me embarrassed about this. Now a virus or demon-possessed PC doesn't seem so far-fetched, does it?

Sorry for almost embarrasing you and making you  . Only came here for help, not for a personal evaluation. Excuse me for not being normal, but it was not on the desktop. I'll uninstall it and hopefully quit bothering you all with such questions. Sorry for wasting a thread.   :(

I'm not here to ridicule people. I wouldn't have lasted this long if I was.
It is your duty to know what software is installed on your PC. We can't know what you have until you tell us. When you poo-poo another member and imply something less than sanity in him/her, you open yourself to criticism.
If I had voice recognition software running and saw automatic text typing, I wouldn't have thought twice about what the problem was.
Frankly, I'm glad that the problem is solved - even relieved. If you choose to go away mad, that's your choice. We all make mistakes. I've been embarrassed before here. I keep pushing on though.
Don't be discouraged. Be aware. ;)

Wow, that is a bazzar twist to a freaky problem. Certainly one for the books I would say. It is easy to see how the obvious can be so elusive. I tried LH/Voice Express a couple of years ago with decent requirements and can only say it was the worst 40 bucks I ever spent on a program. I was supposed to get a twenty dollar rebate on that program and never did get that money back. Rebates suck! So does the no returns on software policy that seems to be the norm. When I first installed that program I realized I'd been taken. There should be a law against selling beta software that is mislabled. Worse yet, I registered the program to get product support and now get occasional offers to buy an updated version. Fool me once shame on you ........we all know the rest. I would like to know if anyone has ever had a v/r program that even came close to working right and saving time. I'm missing fingers and can't type very fast so a v/r program that worked would be a big help to me.

.... little touchy aren't we !:D
Please , as Bill says don't go away mad. Take this as a learning experience ( one of those hard lessons of life). I,too would have never guessed you had some voice rec software on your system. So if you chose to go away mad, THAT'S your CHOICE!
by the way who around here is normal?????? :D

Thanks, jap03. I fired up a Quake 3 server on one PC, chose models and joined with another. Wait! Wait! Screenshot! Now open with good old Paintshop Pro, crop and reduce.
Tada! Killer Clown. :r

Didn't know that I did that, but if so, sorry.

Like I said, it just started doing it (that was noticable to me) last night. That's when I checked the vr software. When I played with it a week or two ago, I thought that I HAD disabled it. It no longer showed up on the task bar or office shortcut bar, so I assumed that it was disabled. It was not a seperate software that I installed, it was installed with XP Pro
