I have a K7VZA Rev 3.00 with aN Phoenix Bios #014456509 with a small white sticker on the bios with the motherboard #K7VZA and the number 212 below it. Sent the motherboard was part of a box of stuff I bought at a swapmeet I have no history on it
but with AMD 850, memory, video, and a floppy all I get is the fans startup and a blank screen so I am thinking it's not making through the bios. Could any one give me some insight on this problem. I'm just going to use this board as a training tool . So! if you can help me learn some about what happen before a mother board makes it through the bios or piont me in the right direction
I would be greatful.

If you are testing it in the case, loosen the screws so the board "floats" and try again.

This is usually caused by either a bad capacitor or a grounded motherboard.

Also this happened to me once,

My board had a spot for a spacer right under the Video card, so Iput one their but after I got itall hooked up it would boot only black screen like you say. I then took out the spacer under the vide card and bam it worked. Must have been shorting somthing.

Alo re-seat your video card.Give it a god push and make sure it is in all the way.

If out of the case what surface has it been lain on?

I'd try the classic "Minimum Post Configuration" and see what that gives you.

Lay the motherboard outside the case on a non-conductive surface. Install CPU/HSF, RAM, Video Card, and Keyboard. Connect a power supply, short the power switch connectors on the mobo briefly with a screwdriver and see if it posts. You do need to hook the video card up to a monitor too. It is important to perform this test with as many "known good components" as you can. Any part you can test on or pull from another system is the one you use. I have a 1mb Trident PCI card that's great just because I know it works.

This is really the minimum you need to get through the POST and into BIOS setup. In theory a board will POST without a keyboard but you can't get into BIOS.

Well I have made a test bed for this little proj. Mybe I'm injoying this to much! "but anyway" took an old atx base plate and mounted it on a piece of 1/4 plywood. Added some of thows old style nylon mounts. Just cut off the tabs and the board slide's off and on with ease. Cut off the slot area on an old at case and lined it up and screwed it down onthe plywood seems to work well to hold the cards firmly

The mager update is I got some info from ECS the people how make this motherboard and the say the bios should be an Award Bios not a Phoniex so there's a big problem

Oh man! Somebody just plugged in a BIOS chip that was laying around! That sux. I would go to www.badflash.com and get another - or maybe you should bail out before you waste too much time. :(

The only reason I'm working on this thing anyway is to learn more about the bios funtions and mybe learn how to salvage some of these motherboads I get handed tome ya see I fix old systems and give the to kids how need them and make them availible to kids at the boys clubs of america so what I learn on this could trams late into some better machines for the kids. Beside I love learning this stuff. I only went to the eighth Grade in school and now how some of the less fortunet kids feel. All the need is a help and incureagment.

PS I no my spelling sucks (HO HUM)
