Internet not 911

I just tried connecting to Netzero, couldn't then 911 phoned saying a call was placed to them from my number? Wuhhh?! Bizarre, thought I was in an episode of the twilight zone.

Has anyone had access to your system that is a prankster? Sounds like a trick I would play on someone....
Someone must have changed the dialup number.

Dave I'm positive no one has touched this pc unless they could change it when I'm online(56k modem and I checked the #'s, they haven't been changed). All the cities in my area were amalgamated into one "super city" on Jan 1. The phone lines have been buggy and there's been power cuts a few times here since New Year's day. I'm thinking they've got a few bugs to fix.

I'd call your phone company and tell them about it because a lot of people maybe calling 911 instead of dialing in...
(Ask others if this is happening to them..)

Have seen this elsewhere - check dialling options for 9 (outside line on some office systems) and/or other "dial this before number" options.

All the settings look normal so I think there was just some glitch in the phone system. In all honesty, in the age of laywer's and solicitor's, no emergency centre despatcher would take the risk of not sending something to check it out. That's why they rang you back. By the time you answered the phone, someone was probally already despatched to your address. When you told them it was a bogey i.e. false alarm, the crew that were despatched probably got turned about.

Just to be on the safe side, you should do a good Anti-virus scan. There are a few viruses and trojans that call 911. Here is one of the worst.
