I am looking for a motherboard that will support my AMD K6II 500 and also has a x4 AGP slot... anyone know of any?? I have this new video card and don't want to buy a new motherboard, CPU, and memory if I don't have to!

I hope you're not trying a GF3/4 in there as that K6-2 will kill it :) deadkenny 05-25-2002, 05:40 AM I think I recall a socket 7 board that actually had an AGP slot, but there's no way it was X4 (don't think it was even X2). BTW, why would you want to 'upgrade' to a board with AGPX4 and still use your (trying hard to be polite) "less than state-of-the-art" processor? I mean you can get a sub-1GHz Duron for dirt cheap, and a decent socket A SDRAM board for not much more. That combo would be way better than anything you could possibly do with a socket 7 rig. otheos 05-25-2002, 05:46 AM AGP 4x was there with the VIA MVP3 chipset (see Epox MVP3G2/G5 boards) which were SS7 boards. However upgrading to such a board unless it is for free it's not a good idea (see deadkenny's post). A Duron 1G + ECS K7S5A (SDR and DDR for later) will set you back only $100 and you'll have a box at least 2x faster :) (oh and it has AGP4X) :) Peter M 05-25-2002, 10:13 AM Nuff guessing now folks. ALi Aladdin V, SiS 5591 and VIA VP3 and MVP3 were socket-7 chipsets with AGP slot. They all were 2x AGP. No 4x AGP socket-7 chipset, hence no such board either. regards, Peter otheos 05-25-2002, 10:51 AM Hm, my memory failed me, especially given that I have used boards with all these chipsets and was quite sure the MVP3 was AGP4x. No doubt now :) smelanson 05-25-2002, 11:43 AM The question I have to ask is why would you need that for a K6-2, Try upgrading the board and processor first, and besides 4x cards will work in a 2x slot. Otheos had the right idea, get a Duron, Celeron, etc. SysOpt.com
