I just help my friend set up his new system. Four days later he powered on and the picture on the monitor was ll pulled to one side as if a magnet had been placed next to it, but there really wasnt anything noticeable near by. But I suggested unplugging it from the wall and the pc and sure enough it was fine when he plugged it back in. Any idea what that was all about?? Thanks for the help.

The horizontal stabilizer circuit in the display may be iffy. Sometimes, heat is the issue. I would live with it until it's a real pain and then put it in for repair or replacement.

Any idea why unpluggin it for a second might fix it?

It has circuits in it that you clear when you restart it - just like computer. You rebooted it.

Oh, that makes sense. Well now its doing another weird thing. It is blurry in the middle only. But only for windows applications like the desktop or installsheild and opening the browsers. But when he plays games or opens other programs it is fine. Is that just a coincidence?

I would guess that it's related. Try different resolutions and color levels and see if it clears.

Since a video card costs considerably less than a monitor, I would try out another $50 video card before repairing or replacing the monitor. I just yesterday picked up a brand new GeForce2 GTS 32MB DDR RAM OEM Visiontek card for $50. That's a pretty good backup card! That's just what it is to me too - a backup for testing and possible inclusion in a PC that I may build for myself or a client.

LOL......actually my friend is running a geforce 4 ti 4600 and actually spent more on that than his monitor. But no matter what the resolution or color levels, its the same result. He hooked up an old monitor and everything ran fine.....no blurs.......so i guess he'll just have to replace it.
