...you order that hot new DVD or CDR drive and it turns out to be 10 shades darker or lighter than all of your other beige drives? It makes the PC look like it was made in Mongolia!

I just refurbished a black workstation. I went with beige only because it's so hard to get black parts in the model you want. I got a lovely LG 16x DVD player and a TEAC 40x CDRW. The flippin' TEAC is TAN where the LG is almost white! ARGH! This tower looks horrible!

I think I'll buy some chrome spray paint and flame decals...

:p

well i just don't care about looks. true i cursed HP for making my cd-rw gray when the rest of my computer wasn't. but i stoped caring when i found an old 5 1/4 adapter that i used for my 3 1/2 zipdrive the adapter was almsot green. then i painted my case blue and bought a black mobile bay. so mine is all missmatched but who really cares?

lady clients? are you some kind of male Prosah :D :D :D

Why not put the box under the desk or in a cupboard? At work we are re-furbishing a room with 20 TFT/LCD (have no idea what the difference is) and wireless keyboards/mice. Means the box's are hidden and all you see is what you see, me thinks it could look nice.

I'll buy that!

05-22-2002, 09:15 PM
Yeah, plastikote is prob the best 'cause it doesn't chip or crack as easily as regular spray paint. It's flexible enough to take the vibes of a PC.

If you don't like the spray paint idea you could always get one of those flashy cases with the doors on the front. They look pretty nice, if you have the spare cash. You can whack in whatever colour devices you want and you won't see them unless the door is open. Of course the let down is that you have to open the door everytime you want to put a disk in/out, unless you leave it open, then that sort of defeats the purpose. Most cases are made for server type computers, but all that extra space is nice too.

hehe, If you want looks - buy a mac (No, I'm not endorsing macs! The only thing they are good for is looks - sort of like those toyota capris that came out some years ago. The company said they were sports cars, but they only looked sporty).

I like the PlastiCote think, but I'm afraid I might "weld" the buttons and drawers. Metallic blue would be niiice.

You gotta take em apart to paint em...:D

Yup ya gotta spray each part separately...;)

I plan on painting mine with the same paint that they used to paint Wonder Womans Jet...

That way my wife won't know where any of my stuff is...:r

Spray paint! How about Testors model paint they've got some really wild colors. I've got a NEC Tower that's going to look like a 60's Hot Rod. Hood scoop, side pipes, flames and pinstripes! Maybe even a HOTWHEELS sticker.

I got the black drives. :) Anyone interested in a black Compaq CDROM, a light beige LG 16x DVD and a tan TEAC 40X burner? Unused and in ziploc baggies!

Bill, you could camo them and call them stealth models.:x :r

BipolarBill
05-25-2002, 12:15 AM
I just might pick up some Testor's paint and experiment a bit.

It seems cruel. There are quite a few members who would love to have a brand new 40X TEAC CDR and an LG 16X DVD - yet here I am experimenting with paint on them! I don't even need them.

Bill, I am a master at faking colors, trust me. What you need here is a good blowtorch. If you rig up a cyber cooler and one of those mouth suckers the dentist uses to a blow torch and inject the pure essence from the crack of a himaylaian yak's ***, correction a himaylan yakass, ( I'd hate to be labeled rude) you can safely modify the hue of any surface very quickly. This is not rocket science even though NASA has the process patented. I am certain for home use it is acceptable with a low risk of infringement. :r

I'll take the DVD player!!! For a fellow Texan? $25 plus shipping. I'll throw in the Compaq CDROM if you can prove that you know someone who needs black. ;)

PM me.

I don't need a black CDROM drive and i don't know anyone who does. I am only getting the LG DVD player because all of my other stuff is beise, And my CD-RW is an LG. I won't be useing the DVD funstion that much because I have an XBOX. My old DVD drive I have doesn't fit in my case all the way(its the gateway stile) and it doesn't play newer DVDs. It doesn't even play burned CDs.

I will ask my uncle and see if he needs a CDROM drive and I will go see if I have $25 to spend.

I'll check back with ya later. If I can buy it I will PM you with my address.

Also, can I pay you through PayPal?

Thanks,

Sorry Bill I can't buy it. My mom won't let me buy anything until I can get $600 to pay my downpayment on the car I am getting next year. Its going to be my first car and she doesn't want me to go spending my money on something I don't really need. She sais that I am fine with only one CDROM drive.

Maybe you can find some sucker close to your house and sell it to them for $70. You'd get a good deal there;)

P.S. Congrats on you being the new MOD. Have fun kicking people off this site:D

Congrats on you being the new MOD. Have fun kicking people off this siteThanks d00d! Let's hope that I never have to do that. King Solomon I ain't. :x You may, however, see some (ahem) creative editing in my name. ;)

Sorry about the budget constraints. If I don't see a buyer in a few weeks, I may send it for free. It takes courage to ask and courage should be rewarded, don't you think?

I just thought of something that I should have thought of before you bought the new drives. Could you buy color panels for the old drives? I've seen some drives where you can change the color of the front panal.

Oh yeah, good come back there;)

Hi there!

Ever heard of Mods?

People designing their own computercases
and making them more fancy and "high-tech" than any computer
store can do. :-)

The limit is the imagination, and you can make a "new" computer
of your old one with almost no cash involved.

To get the thingies that could become your fantastic one-of-a-kind computer, take a look at :

http://www.pcmods.com/

http://www.coolcases.co.nz/

For some finished result that other guys have done, take a
look at:

http://www.alienmedia.com.au/cases/

http://www.questpc.com/

http://www.prism.gatech.edu/~gte208v/case.html

http://mota.mota.com/lights.html

Well, have fun!
(There are a lot of other sites out there, just search
for case modification )

Later
Gobi.
