Without your knowledge or explicit permission, the Windows networking technology which connects your computer to the Internet may be offering some or all of your computer's data to the entire world at this very moment!

When running Zone Alarm I get all "Stealth" from Shields Up. However, when not running ZA I usually get all "Closed" responses from my ports...but for some reason, am now getting two ports reporting "Stealth". Anyone know why this might be? How can I have any stealth ports with no firewall?

21 FTP Stealth!
23 Telnet Stealth!
25 SMTP Closed
79 Finger Closed
80 HTTP Closed
110 POP3 Closed
113 IDENT Closed
139 Net BIOS Closed
143 IMAP Closed
443 HTTPS Closed

Attempting connection to your computer. . .
Shields UP! is now attempting to contact the Hidden Internet Server within your PC. It is likely that no one has told you that your own personal computer may now be functioning as an Internet Server with neither your knowledge nor your permission. And that it may be serving up all or many of your personal files for reading, writing, modification and even deletion by anyone, anywhere, on the Internet!

-Please Note: On highly secure systems this may take up to one minute. . .

*Preliminary Internet connection refused!
This is extremely favorable for your system's overall Windows File and Printer Sharing security. Most Windows systems, with the Network Neighborhood installed, hold the NetBIOS port 139 wide open to solicit connections from all passing traffic. Either this system has closed this usually-open port, or some equipment or software such as a "firewall" is preventing external connection and has firmly closed the dangerous port 139 to all passersby. (Congratulations!)

*Unable to connect with NetBIOS to your computer.
All attempts to get any information from your computer have FAILED. (This is very uncommon for a Windows networking-based PC.) Relative to vulnerabilities from Windows networking, this computer appears to be VERY SECURE since it is NOT exposing ANY of its internal NetBIOS networking protocol over the Internet.

ALL PORTS CLOSED!

Your Internet port 139 does not appear to exist!

Unable to connect with NetBIOS to your computer.

I've deleted Vnetbios.vxd & Vnetsup.vxd (& the associated registry info), so the Netbios port 139 doesn't exist, and reports "Stealthed" @ the above site (all others "closed"). I run no firewall or antivirus, etc. Don't do this unless you KNOW you don't need these files & their services.

I hit my system with a complete NMAP scan a few days ago. Of all 65,000+ ports, not a single one was detected. Thus, as far as I'm concerned, I'm completely stealth to all Internet scans.
