I recently upgraded my computer that actually has a AGP Slot. I'm using a Voodoo 5 pci video card. My question is how much of a gain will I get going to an AGP card? And can I get a gain for under $100.00? If so what card would be best? :)

I do not have a answer to your question, but be prepared for most to tell you to forget the voodoo & get a GeForce!

well this RT wont.
If you change from PCI to AGP you might see a difference it depnds on how demanding the games you play are. When i changed from a V3 2000 PCI to Geforce2MX200 AGP i saw no difference atall. But this was due to the video card not the AGP bus. If i had got a Geforce3TI500 when i would have.
The voodoo 5 you have at the moment will be sufficient to play any game currently on the market depending on the rest of your pc specs. But next time you upgrade the graphics cards get an AGP because although theres no MAJOR difference if oes free up a PCI slot.

I am not so sure I completely agree with you Tricktx. I think the performance gained or not gained will depend on the rest of the system specs. Using the AGP is a much faster path to the CPU as it uses a direct path. I have a PII and two Voodoo Banshee boards, one PCI and the other AGP. I see a definite gain in performance when using the Blaster Banshee AGP. I am not sure of the answer, but perhaps on a more robust system the difference isn't so noticeable. I am not sure if the Voodoo 3 and GF2 are in the same class of video card, but you can't compare those to a GF3 Ti, there is just no competition.

Thanks guys, just to add a little more info, I have:
Pentium 4, 1.7Ghz processor
Alton P4VX2AD Motherboard
1024Mb DDR Ram
Maxtor 20 Gig HD 5400
Maxtor 80 Gig External storage
Voodoo 5 PCI Card
Diamond Supramax 56k modem
Win 98 OS (I have ME, just haven't installed yet)
My next step is to get cable internet connection which is only 1 week away.(finally in my area woohoo)
I'm not to big into games on the computer(I figure thats what my playstation is for), but I am interested in doing video editing. This is what caused me to upgrade from my AMD K2 III 333Mhz. I bought a cheap Dazzle video capture program and when downloading video into the computer it would stop & run and just be very sketchy. Well guess what? It's running the same way on my new computer. I figure it has to be the cheap Dazzle program? I was told an AGP was better, but I wanted to know if the difference from my Voodoo 5 would be a great notice, worthy of the extra $???

what i was trying to say is that, the only way you an tell if AGP is faster than PCI is by having the exact same card that you have as PCI. then you might find its a bit faster but i dont believe by much in my case. The next graphics card he should get should be AGP but i wouldnt spens money just to get an AGP card as the Voodoo 5 and a p4 1.7 can play any game out there. And if he did replace it with a Voodoo 5 AgP the performance difference would be nothing

Thanks Tricktx, that's the answer I was looking for. I will save my money. Unless I see a deal I can't refuse. Thanks again for all your input!:t
