Print jobs from MS Works 4.5 very slow help

I'm having a problem printing jobs from MS Works. When I send a print job to my HP 1100 printer it is taking 10 min or more before the job prints. Also when I try to print spread sheets they are being broken apart. One page showing the cells and another page showing all of the data. It prints jobs fine from Photoshop, Notepad and WordPad. I'm just having trouble with Works. Anybody experience this problem before I could use some help.

when did this start happening w/ works?
right away?
couple weeks after?
have you tried updating your printer drivers?

how long has it been since you restarted you computer?

Fixed the problem after about 3 hours. This is my Brothers work PC which I found out is not well maintained. I defragmented the hard drive which took 2 hours but didn't solve the problem. Then reinstalled the drivers didn't fix it either. Downloaded the latest drivers and installed them, this helped a little but still had troubles. I finally found the manual which I looked for first but couldn't find. The solution, hold the power button down for 5 seconds and reset the memory. All that trouble and all I had to do was reset the printer. Live and learn. I just wish I didn't have to learn the hard way all the time. I'm getting very proficient at installing drivers though.
