Yesterday morning when I turned on my 5 year old HP 694C printer it started making some clicking noise. Sounds like it is getting ready to print but just continues the noise. I tried print but then it stops and the trouble light starts blinking.
No error message.
I tried rebooting.. power off, etc.
Anyone have a suggestion other than replace it?
Thanks:t

Unplug it and look for a paper jam. If you find one, fish it out with a thin piece of wire with a hook on the end. I doubt there is anyone left on this planet who can fix a toaster much less a printer for less then the cost of a new one. With some makes you can't even buy a set of ink cartridge for less then the price of a new one. ;)

Don't think it's a paper jam.. when I try to print it takes a piece of paper in then, stops. I power off, on, then the paper comes on through, afterwards the trouble light is flashing.
The problem started when it was turned on. It had worked fine the last time it was used.
Yes, sure glad I hadn't just replaced the ink cartridge. :)

See if it will print with a self test and run any diagnostic software if available. The HP website should have information on how to do this. There is simple button sequence when you turn on the printer that will initiate a self test. If it doesn't work at all give it a proper burial in the land fill. If it prints OK check the cable connections, try a different printer cable, and check for a resource conflict.

you could try un-instaling and then re-instaling, this worked for my hp deskjet 930c

Refurb HP Printers are very cheap. Look on ubid.com and upgrade to a newer/faster printer that still uses the same ink cartridges as you do now.

No, self test doesn't work. No diagnostic software on XP. It was on my older pc with W-95 but XP furnish the software on this one.
Burial may be in need. :t

My cartridges are old. If I get a new printer I am thinking about the Cannon S750 for I don't want USB.
Thanks

No, the color stop working about a year ago, the black is about 7 months old.
Now I wouldn't take a chance on buying new ink for the printer is 5 years old and ink may not be the problem.
I tried oiling the bar but didn't help.
Thanks
