AMD T-bird 1Ghz
A7V mobo w/ Super Orb + 2 case fans
256MB PC133 Micron
Pioneer 16x (slot) DVD
MS Intellimouse Explorer
Western Digital 30GB HDD
SB Live MP3+
Cambridge Soundworks FPS2000
Logitech VC Pro Webcam
Epson Stylus 875DC Photo printer
Acer scanner

I'm sure about the AMD approved powersupply, but must it be 300 watts or will 250 watts be more than sufficient ?

Thanks.

for a few extra $ ,and peace of mind why not. durons/t-bird's tend to be power hungry.I'm sure you will probably add more to your system later and need it ,so why not add it now? just my opinion.

it's sort of a tradeoff for me actually. I don't want to spend more than $70 (which already includes shipping) on a case since I've already spent so much...

And from directron.com ... adding 50watts of AMD approved power will actually cost $30! I can't believe it myself.

I'm actually looking for a case with good outside looks that contains an AMD approved PS. 250watts is probably sufficient, but I wanted to make absolutely sure. Someone from another board said I'd only need a 300watt PS if I had 3 harddrives, 3 CDROMs, and 8 case fans... I'm sure he's exagerrating a bit, but how close is he ?

I'm currently looking at either this guy (300watts AMD approved) $68 shipped: http://electroseller.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=electroseller&Product_Code=4366&Category_Code=017

or this guy (250watts AMD approved) $82 shipped:

Second time I have admited to this in a week. I like my CompUSA generic 300watt 4lrg/2sm external bays. Cheap 60$ and no delivery just grab one off the shelf. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif

This guy on ebay sells decent cases with 300 watt PSUs, case fans, a lot of stuff! I buy from him regularly: http://cgi6.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewListedItems&userid=kt-boy&include=0&since=-1&sort=2&rows=25

I'm with caddmannq on this one. The extra $20-30 is well worth not having to go through the aggrevation of potential system instabilities due to a lower grade power supply.

I have used 250 watt units in many Athlon (upto 1000 MHz) systems, but the standard configuration for these was only two IDE drives (HDD and CD/ROM) and a low-power Voodoo3 2000. Personally, all my AMD systems are now running with dual-fan EnerMax 430's, and not a single power related problem yet.

$58 (http://www.axiontech.com/cgi-local/prdtinfo.asp?prdt=CSEN7237300)

I highly recommend Enlight, excellent cases, and axiontech is highly rated at www.resellerratings.com (http://www.resellerratings.com)

If you bought the processor withe the warrenty on it(the one in the retail box) then you'll void your warrenty if you uses anything in you comp that isn't approved by them. Considering the attitude of most sysoptians, this doesn't really matter. I'd go with the 300W. I know the T-birds really suck some juice. I';m not really sure about the rest of the stuff but, jsut to be safe... When you start adding stuff, you start losing power, and power is something you shouldn't have to worry about when you build a computer. In conclusion (taking out all the ****) - Get a 300W, but don't really worry about AMD approved, just get a quality PS
